The Last Of Us Part 1 Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs
3. Next-Gen Visuals & Attention To Detail
Of course, the biggest focus of The Last of Us Part 1 is going to be the visuals, which is a trickier thing to analyse. That’s partly because The Last of Us was already a stunning game, and with the aforementioned remaster and PS4 Pro patches, still looks stunning to this day. Its more stylised visual design helps as well of course, and kept it looking modern for near a decade.
The Last of Us Part 1 opts for the more naturalistic and realistic design found in The Last of Us Part 2, and it’s a true beauty to behold. To call this project a hack-job or a lazy cash in is to completely miss the mark - this is a proper visual remake, not just a slight touch up.
Character models across the board are best in class, with NPCs in particular boasting a ridiculous level of detail compared to other games. The landscapes and environments look similarly stunning, with impressive locations such as the University from the original retaining the same striking sense of personality and then some. The lighting is incredible, and with HDR turned on adds depth to scenes.
