The Order: 1886 - 15 Easter Eggs, References & In Jokes You Must See

4. Jack The Ripper

With Sir Arthur Conan Doyle invoked and the setting being Whitechapel, it was inevitable that the Ripper - one of the biggest cultural flashpoints of the period in the non-alternate universe - would also play some part in the game. When the game's twist is revealed, it turns out that Lord Hastings, the leader of the Order, is in fact a villain himself (and at the head of a plot to ship vampires to America), and he admits to his real name - Jacob Van Neck - and refers to the tabloids calling him Jack The Ripper. The name Jacob Van Neck is also a reference to a real historical figure: a famous Dutch naval officer and explorer and a key figure in the expansion of naval trade, which is clearly a pertinent point.
