The REAL Reason The Last Of Us Part 2 Got Delayed Indefinitely

In the continued horror story that is the year 2020, The Last of Us Part 2 has been delayed indefinitely. Despite releasing two separate statements though, the reason as to why the anticipated sequel has been pulled remains vague, with both Sony and Naughty Dog simply pointing out "logistical issues" and promising the game is in the bug-fixing stage and nearly finished.

Fortunately, Kotaku writer Jason Schreier has spoken to developers inside the studio working on the game, and has explained on Twitter exactly why the title has been delayed a month before it was set to launch. The biggest reason - as a lot of people assumed - had to do with the manufacturing issues currently plaguing companies around the world.

Schreier pointed out that problems with shipping, printing and selling physical copies were a major factor in Sony's decision. A similar problem has hounded the release of Final Fantasy VII, and has led to the street date being broken and players picking that game up well before the official launch date.

When asked why Naughty Dog doesn't simply release it digitally - a fair question considering how much business is done on online storefronts these days - Schreier clarified Sony's thinking, tweeting:

With everyone that's going on, delaying The Last of Us so everyone can enjoy it, and it gets the launch it deserves, is undeniably the best move. It sucks to see it delayed again, but this sequel could potentially be the biggest launch of the PS4's entire lifecycle, and getting it right is incredibly important.
