The Video Game Art Style That Divides EVERY Gamer

It’s All About Nostalgia... Or Is It?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Has Changed The Franchise Forever

What’s the reason for the recent influx of pixel art games? Well, perhaps it’s partly to cash in on the raw power of nostalgia. Take a look at the huge trend for remasters and remakes, for instance.

When the Final Fantasy VII remake was finally announced, it caused a tremendous furore among fans. Each new glimpse at a familiar area and/or Cloud’s magnificent gravity-defying hair in full HD delighted fans of the original, and the game was a huge success on its April 2020 launch.

Naturally, a project such as this or the remakes of Resident Evil 2 or 3 primarily appeals to fans of the original. It’s a heck of a project to remake a classic game from the ground up, and only popular ones that warrant the effort are picked.

Where does this tie into the pixel art style? Well, for one thing, both are just so commonplace in gaming today that new announcements are as likely to bore gamers as they are to excite them. For another, it’s the combination of old and new that developers just can’t seem to stop trying with.

For another, it's a similar case in that a game must succeed or fail on its own merits.
