Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Remaster: 10 Things You Need To Know
9. They Built On Top Of Neversoft's 'Handling Code'
Vicarious Visions knew beforehand they'd have to nail some key things that made the original THPS gamers so damn good. Part of their plan involved securing assets from old dev-team Neversoft that'd give them something to build upon. So, VV set about the task of getting 'handling code' from 20+ years ago.
Then, they used that level geometry to map out everything fans remember from the old days; that was crucial, because nobody wants to fly around the School level and find that grind rails aren't in the same place or lines have been changed. Visions wanted to keep everything familiar but paint it with a fresh coat.
They went for photo-real quality for the graphics too. Skaters were scanned in wearing different outfits, and every pipe, piece of graffiti, texture and set piece was lovingly recreated. This is obviously a labour of love for those working on the game.
Thank God.
