2. MadWorld
Platinum GamesWhile certain violent video games may send parents into an uproar, theyre certainly not new. In games like MadWorlds case, the violence is so over-the-top that its practically a cartoon. Actually, a more correct comparison would be Manga due to the black and white color scheme. Its certainly not a popular graphical style in video games, so it alone is worth a blank stare. Watching someone play MadWorld must be similar to watching a child play in a sandbox. Levels are more like gigantic arenas than obstacle courses. Since protagonist Jack only needs to accumulate a certain amount of points in order to progress, let alone survive, he could essentially decapitate the heads of all of his enemies with a chainsaw in order to succeed. But wheres the fun in that, especially considering there are meat hooks, barrels and, well, pretty much the whole level as weapons? But whats truly weird is how MadWorld gamifies the gruesome violence. Jack can earn extra points by using a baseball to hit enemies towards gigantic targets. There are even two announcers that comments nonchalantly over each brutal kill as if they were on ESPN. To anybody who walks in, theyll be shocked at how gleefully demented this game can truly be.
