4. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
PS2 The last in what is widely considered the original series, before Tony went off and started giving his games weird names. 4 took on a new gaming structure, instead of basing the career mode around short 2 minute session, the player is allowed to Free Skate around a level, taking on the various challenges whenever they want. This idea was the biggest addition to the series and really changed the flow of the gameplay. Before this everything you wanted to do had to be achieved within 2 minutes! This meant that the player was always under pressure and running against the clock. 4 allowed a more relax approach to gameplay, and idea that look obvious now, but at the time it was a big deal. The game saw some graphical improvements as it was design from the ground up for the new generation of console, but did not have any major improvements or additions to the gameplay. Some movement mechanics were added, such as the ability to spine transfer and also car skitching, which involves grabbing the back of a car in order to build up speed. Best levels: College, Alcatraz and London.
