1. Resident Evil 4
We've finally reached the top game from the Resident Evil series, and I doubt many will be disappointed with the number one game. Resident Evil 4 turned the series on its head, and it hasn't looked back since. RE4 reintroduced players to Leon Kennedy; a more mature and experienced Leon Kennedy. In search of the USA's President's daughter, Leon finds himself in a Spanish village that, similarly to Raccoon City, has been turned into an infected zone. You'll quickly notice however, that infected humans don't turn into mindless zombies, but instead remain humanoid but are absolutely aggressive to outsiders. They are also quick and sometimes smart to boot. A deadly combination. RE4 must have one of the most creepy atmospheres in any game due to the nature of the infection, known as the 'Las Plagas'. As such Leon stumbles across various humanoid and non-humanoid foes, with bosses in the game being memorably gruesome. The story of RE4 is a bit weak, especially considering the President's daughter, Ashley, can be an annoying source of problems. Her character overall is just annoying. The rest of the cast fares much better, with the underlying tones of the game particularly shining through certain characters and their vested interests. The gameplay is definitely more action oriented than previous titles, but it still manages to include a good amount of horror elements, if not particularly 'survival horror'. There is no doubt however that the gameplay is more fluid with the 'over the shoulder' camera perspective compared to earlier entries. Even the inventory management is miles better. Overall, Resident Evil 4 is easily one of the best games in the RE universe. A bold new direction paid dividends for Capcom, who not only brought new life into the RE series, but also brought new life into the 'third-person shooter' genre, with many games copying the 'over the shoulder' camera perspective that worked so well. It also featured a rather creepy and disturbing atmosphere, definitely befitting an RE game. ______ So there you have it folks, a list of the top Resident Evil games. Hopefully the feature was an enjoyable read and if you have any opinions, share it! Creating this feature has made me hungry for more Resident Evil goodness, and now I can't wait for Resident Evil 6. Granted, some previews of the game may make things look a bit too action-oriented, but Capcom do seem to be putting a decent amount of effort into the game, so here's hoping the game turns out good.
