UFC 4 Reveal: 10 Things We Want To See
2. Info About An Overhaul To The Grappling System
One of the things that UFC 3 perfected was the striking system. The game had the perfect balance of being seriously technical on the feet once you get the hang of it, whilst also not having too steep a learning curve for new players to adjust to.
The problem is, while the game offers a million different ways to slip, parry, and roll with punches as they come towards the player, both firing back with a picture-perfect retort, the game's grappling system is painfully simplistic.
This is actually understandable in many ways. After all, the intricate nuances in mixed martial arts grappling aren't exactly immediately evident, particularly for those who have never trained themselves. But even then, the game fails to even come close to making wrestling for a dominant position, and attacking submissions anywhere near as varied and interesting as they could be.
If the grappling system can be made even half as good as the striking mechanics in the upcoming game, EA UFC 4 could be a real triumph for the series.
