You may be wondering where our Uncharted 3
review is? Well it's in the mail at the moment but to pass the time here are what the rest of the gaming press is saying about Nathan Drake
's latest foray. IGN
I find IGN
reviews to generally provide well rounded reviews though, I have to say this one is almost gushing. That said, it is good to read a review that was clearly a joy to write.
"That's Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
. From start to finish, single player to multiplayer, this game sings. The characters, the graphics, the sound, the story theyre all top notch. If youre willing to skip Uncharted 3, be prepared to miss one of gamings finest moments." EUROGAMEREurogamer
has taken a decidedly less positive turn. Though in no way a bad score it seems the reviewer was less than impressed, comparing Uncharted's multiplayer unfavourably against Modern Warfare
" As an expression of all that a video game could be, however, Uncharted 3 is narrow, focused and ultimately shallow. It is a majestic tribute to cinema, a movie game in the literal sense, and your enjoyment will be in precise step with your appreciation of that objective - and whether or not you believe it to be Drake's great deception, or Drake's great delight. " JoystigJoystig
however, seem to firmly agree with IGN.
"It's just an inch
further from perfection than Among Thieves
-- but that's still closer than most game franchises get within their lifetimes. Moment to moment, it outshines just about every other game on the market, and while it doesn't exactly break the action-adventure mold, it fills it with such practiced substance that you don't really mind the familiarity of its shape." Yet, back we go towards the very good rather than the exceptional.
"It is this agonizing eschewing of potential in Uncharted 3
that ultimately reduces the game to only great. The technical prowess never ceases to amaze, but the beating heart that makes it more than mere novelty is only intermittently present. As fun as it is in all of its myriad moments of action and design, there is a latent malaise." NowgamerNowgamer
on the other hand have given a near perfect score. However, it seems they are still picking up that Uncharted 2
is a little too close for comfort.
"Uncharted 3 is a tale of two games. One, is the story of a gold standard videogame thats full to the brim with truly great gaming moments, of spectacular set pieces, and that takes you to places and gaming youve never before experienced. The other, is a game thats a little too familiar and that relies on formula and repetition. There are more than enough surprises and delights to make Uncharted 3 more the former than the latter." So that's what our peers think but what will be our verdict? Well we will be delivering a full written review and a video review as soon as possible. In the mean time you can go and buy it for your self as Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is available now.
