Nate is to video games what Indy is to film, and although Naughty Dog owes a ton to Spielberg and Lucas' archaeological adventurer, Uncharted 4 has some of the most subtle references yet.

Firstly, when exploring the large graveyard with Sam, you'll be attempting to track down a very specific tombstone. Getting the details wrong results in Nate saying "Bad dates", only for Sam to giggle. This is a reference to the same line said by Sallah in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Second is the comparison in cinematography between how present-day Indy is introduced in The Last Crusade, and middle-age Nate in A Thief's End. We cut from younger versions to their older incarnations, only to find them both in fight scenes of a sort.

Nate and Indie both smile before being punched in the face, and their genres and characters are too close for this not to be intentional.

Last is the idea of Nate's attic, where he stores all sorts of memorable finds and treasures (more on that later). Indy does the same in his third movie, placing his hat up there for safe storage, a notion Drake repeats at the opening of Uncharted 4.
