Uncharted 4: 9 Annoying Things That Stop It Being Perfect
7. Massive Set-Piece And Certain Death? Look For The Rope Icon
This is a lingering annoyance that comes with how Naughty Dog have always handled set-pieces in all the Uncharted games. Most of the time they work out fine, and you'll emerge from any collapsed building or explosion-filled sprint through a city square unscathed - but for those times you don't, ALL the game's charm and appeal goes right out the window.
To remedy this, Uncharted 4 introduces the ability to rope-swing your way out of danger in basic gameplay - yet extends it into a huge amount of the scripted 'near death' instances you'll encounter. Sliding down a ledge to certain doom? There'll be a rope icon to grab. Broken ledge gave way and you're now face-down into the abyss? Rope icon. Gunfight getting a bit hairy and the game needs to push you forwar- ROPE ICON.
It works very well, the physics behind Nate are exquisite, but it doesn't save the fact that a whopping great prompt pops up every time you're near certain death, becoming your own personal Star of Bethlehem, guiding you out with the deftness of a button-push.
