Until Dawn 2: 10 Improvements For The Perfect Sequel

7. Upgrade The "Don't Move!" Mechanic

The "Don't Move!" mechanic is one of Until Dawn's biggest draws. In a game full of moments that make players jump out of their seats, and pulse-pounding action often requiring a player to move a controller around, the "Don't Move!" mechanic forces players to remain completely still, keeping the controller's light bar inside a very narrow box, or suffer the consequences.

For players that actually do this, it was excellent at raising tension. Trying to keep completely still while blood is pumping in your ears and adrenaline is racing through you is no easy task.

The problem that arises is quite obvious. Players would just set the controller down, and no effort would be required whatsoever, effectively ruining the tension by taking advantage of the mechanic.

This is one feature that absolutely must be included in the sequel, but with an upgrade. One change could instead force players to keep the light bar of the controller inside of a very slow moving box. As stated earlier, the size of the box would potentially depend on the difficulty setting.

Being one of the few games released to ever make use of the battery-draining light bar on the PS4 controller, Until Dawn 2 should continue to build upon this feature to make it into a classic horror experience.
