Ups & Downs From Star Trek: Voyager - Across The Unknown

7. Up: Assignment: Sickbay

If players do manage to keep the lights on and the power flowing to their ever-expanding rooms across Voyager, then not only will they meet the Doctor in Sickbay, but also be able to assign crew to specific locations and utilise bonuses. B'Elanna helps repair the warp core faster. Chakotay gives your weapons an extra boost, and Harry Kim plays the oboe.

Ok, one of those is fictitious, but it's a nice touch that adds to the experience of managing Voyager as it crosses the Delta Quadrant. Need to shuffle them around and utilise skills elsewhere? Go for it because there's no set time they have to be in one place, and different situations will call for different skills in various places aboard the Intrepid Class starship.

It's good to see this feature truly recognised in a Star Trek game, and it was something that the creators of the mobile Star Trek: Timelines had envisaged when it was in development a decade ago. In that format, it never came to fruition, but here it's been effectively realised and in a useful way to assist players' progress. So go ahead and stick Chakotay in the mess hall for 20 cycles.

We dare you.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
