Warhammer 40K: Every Faction Ranked From Least To Most Evil

While the Space Marines are specialized shock troops, the Imperial Guard are the rank-and-file, poor bloody infantry of the Imperium. These are not genetically enhanced demi-gods, but ordinary men and woman who bravely take the field against enemies the likes of which they have no business fighting.

As a loyal adherent of the Imperial Cult the average Guardsman is every bit as zealous and xenophobic as the next Imperial, but the real evil of the Imperial Guard lies not in their footsoldiers but in their leaders.

Among the regiments walk the Commissars, cold-blooded political officers whose sole job it is to ‘maintain loyalty and moral purity’ by shooting any soldier who attempts to retreat and summarily executing any officer who displays even a whiff of incompetence.

More egregious still they are used as cannon fodder, expendable troops meant to buy the life of one xenos with hundreds of their own. This treatment is absolutely true to form for the Imperium, but a poor way to repay the immense valour and sacrifice shown by these courageous men and women.
