What 10 Great Video Games Look Like Without Visual Effects
8. The Last Of Us
The Last of Us' behind-the-scenes sessions aren't the most immediately striking on this list, but they offer fascinating insight into how much this game succeeded due to the performances of its actors.
Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who play leads Joel and Ellie respectively, are as captivating to watch perform these scenes on set as they are in the finished game. Which is saying a lot, considering they look like they're wearing their pyjamas, are using toy guns and are surrounded by rigging.
The scene where the two characters argue shortly after arriving at Tommy's community in particular is a highlight (8:00 in the video above). Here, Baker and Johnson's performances really shine, and the intensity of the former is arguably even more palpable than in the final release.
Even a quick glance at these sessions proves that The Last of Us was always something special, and here's hoping the behind-the-scenes footage for the sequel is just as extensive.
