Wii Mini March 22nd Release Date Confirmed For UK Launch

nintendo-wii-mini In case you hadn't heard, the lovely people at Nintendo have re-released a new version of their ex-gen console and now it's got its UK date and price tag set. The Wii Mini will be a smaller scaled version (hence the appropriate name) of its original predecessor released in 2007. The new model comes in matte black with a red border, which seems to be the only colour currently available and the console will be packaged with a matching red Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk Controller. Along with its release, Nintendo will be creating a budget series of titles named Nintendo Selects. Games already confirmed include; Wii Sports Resort, Mario Party 8, Super Paper Mario, Mario Power Tennis, Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged Football and Zelda: Twilight Princess. Already available in Canada, Nintendo have estimated that 35,000 units have already been sold in the last 3 months. The positive reception likely confirmed Nintendo's plans for a European release, which is set for March 22nd, with a £79.99 price tag from Game, a fantastic bargain when compared to the Wii's current RRP of £129.99. Before you rush out to pick one up, here's the catch... the console will not have any internet-capabilities, SD-card slots or backwards compatibility with Gamecube games, this of course adds to the reduced retail price but at the cost of no access to the Wii Shop Channel or online gaming. The reasons for this seem to be to target a specific market, those wanting to keep up to date with the latest tech will likely be more interested in the Wii U, whereas the Wii Mini seems to be aimed at families and the more casual gamer.
