Wii U Launch: 6 Franchises That Should Have Been Included

6. A New IP

Whilst Nintendo has some of the greatest franchises in gaming history (Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid and Donkey Kong to name but a few) it hasn€™t created an entirely new IP for quite some time, choosing instead to develop its existing line-up of exclusives. This is no bad thing, as these series continue to be as popular as ever, and Nintendo already has far more exclusives than either Sony or Microsoft. However, there would be no better way for Nintendo to announce the release of the first next-generation console than introducing the world to an entirely new set of characters, locations and stories, all developed with the Wii U€™s unique control system specifically in mind. Not only would this be a perfect way to show off the console€™s capabilities, but it would also show that Nintendo isn€™t afraid to take creative risks and innovate, not just in terms of technology, but also gameplay. With so many family-focussed franchises, Nintendo could opt for a more adult orientated title, allowing them to broaden their appeal beyond the family demographic. Launching an entire new series alongside a new console and a host of familiar titles would be a great way to generate a real buzz about Nintendo€™s latest project.
