World Of Warcraft Classic: 5 Reasons It Might Fail (And Why It Won't)
2. Private Servers
The ones that started it all.
Even "Blizzlike" private servers, used to have a good amount of inaccuracies relative to the game they were trying to emulate, leaving developers to guess at quite a lot to make it feel authentic. The information from 2004 simply wasn't available.
Well, it is now... so if private servers were already popular, even while they were inaccurate in some aspects, why won't everyone just stay on these servers, without needing to pay a monthly subscription fee?
Let's Break It Down:
1. Stability
While saving 15$ a month is great, actually being able to log in and play whenever you want is even better. Any unofficial solution is going present significant issues with lag, roll-backs and even serious downtime.
2. Peace Of Mind
Not knowing whether your character is going to be there tomorrow is rough. Vanilla really makes you grow attached to the journey you and your character went through. Just look at forum posts and videos released on the day of the Nostalrius shutdown.
3. Blizzard
Probably less relevant, but since Blizzard is now themselves offering this product, they are going to be going after unofficial servers much more regularly and harshly.
