WWE 13: 13 Attitude Era Moments That Should Be Included

2. Buts In Seats

Raw: 04/01/1999 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8nbJikFTv8 Mick Foley had been in the wrestling business for a long time and yet he€™d never won the gold. The dangerous Cactus Jack had never come close, the peace-loving Dude Love had lost to Austin at several PPVs and the psychotic Mankind had always fallen short. But when Mankind returned for a second time he was different. The brown overalls were dropped in favour of the famous white shirt and tie, he began to show his funny side and instead of employing his signature Mandible Claw with just his bare hand, he now used a dirty sock, which we all knew as Mr Socko. For the first time in his WWF run, Mankind was now a popular face. Mankind€™s rivalry with The Rock was special and perhaps his best. The pair worked so well because they were complete opposites. Rocky was a sculptured specimen, with an impeccable fashion sense and a know-your-role attitude, whereas Mankind was flabby, dirty and got pleasure from cheap pops. When the pair met for the WWF Championship, the Raw shows back then were taped. During the match DX helped to fight off the presence of Vince McMahon€™s Corporation and an interference from Austin helped Foley secure his first major title. DX hoisted Mankind on their shoulders as the crowd went wild for their new WWF Champion. Meanwhile, on WCW Nitro, Tony Schiavone thought he was being clever by giving away the Raw is War results, including that of the main event match. When he announced that Mankind was going to win the title he uttered the phrase €˜That€™ll put buts in seats€™. The move back fired, as an estimated half a million viewers changed the channel and watched €˜Mrs Foley€™s Baby Boy€™ win the big one.
