WWE 2K15: 10 Things 2K Can Learn From Past Games

9. Controls Shouldn't Be Complex

Once upon a time, video games only consisted of two buttons and a directional pad. For wrestling games, all you had to do was move the character around and press a button to perform a slam or special move. It was simplistic, but effective as a means of entertaining gamers and wrestling fans. Now most modern day games have page after page after page of buttons combinations, analog stick directions, and timed trigger events. Newcomers to the series, and casual gamers in general, can't just pick up and play anymore. They have to be instructed throughout the course of the match. It's like having to take a class course in order to learn how to play. Some might argue that all those different button prompts are necessary in order to get all the different grappling and striking moves into the game. WWF No Mercy was able to have its own grappling system, and for the most part it required two buttons and the directional pad. Bumpers for the reversals, joystick for the finisher, and you had the basic controls that everyone could pull off. If 2K15 had a similar control scheme, it would allow access to the "simple to learn, but hard to master," mentality that makes fighting games fun.
