7. Sting's One Man War
WWE.comSting brought some momentum back to the WCW and kept NWO from becoming more of a monolith. While they didn't outright gain back all of their ground, WCW picked up rare, but significant victories against their opponents. Diamond Dallas Page picked up a victory over the Macho Man at Spring Stampede and Lex Luger won the World Heavyweight Championship from Hollywood Hogan at the August 4th edition of Monday Nitro. WCW's direct war with the New World Order would culminate at Starrcade '97. In a match to decide which faction truly controlled the company, Larry Zbysko won via disqualification over Eric Bischoff. Heading into the main event, WCW was at least safely back in the hands of the good guys. The next match found Sting forcing Hollywood Hogan to submit after intervention by special enforcer Bret Hart. While the capping of this storyline wasn't overwhelmingly positively received, functionally this is a great finale to a very important chapter in WCW.
