6. The NWO Splits
WWE.comFollowing a demoralizing loss to Sting, Hogan no longer was an untouchable leader. While Kevin Nash feuded with The Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage challenged Hogan's authority. Hogan enlisted a new enforcer in the form of The Disciple, while Nash found himself aligning more and more with Savage. The four superstars battled in various match conditions over a handful of pay per views with Hogan coming out on top in the end. While Hogan found victory in terms of the championship, he lost his iron fist hold on his faction. Nash, Savage, and Konnan split from the black and white, and became the NWO Wolfpac, with Luger and Sting eventually taking up the red and black as well. The Giant would move to the newly branded NWO Hollywood, and now two powerful factions would war and leave WCW in their wake. In a drawn out feud it would appear that the Wolfpac came out on top at the end of everything, all things considered. Thanks to Scott Hall and a cattle prod, Kevin Nash broke Bill Goldberg's (more on him down the list) undefeated streak to become the World Heavyweight Champion. In the midst of all this, Hogan retired, leaving Scott Steiner to lead the fledgling NWO Hollywood. At Starrcade '98, Eric Bischoff, who was presiding president of the WCW (and operated from a bias to support NWO) lost his job title against Ric Flair, effectively cutting the head off the snake that was the NWO (or so it seemed).
