WWE 2K16 Hands-On Impressions: 12 Things You Need To Know
7. The Reversals System Adds Depth
Reversals have always been fiddly little bastards to pull off and while that hasn't really changed in WWE2K16, a mechanic has been introduced which adds no small amount of strategy to the game. In this game superstars are given a finite number of reversals (no more than 5) that they can pull off in a row, which will slowly recharge over time. If you try and counter every single strike, your reversal bar will quickly deplete, leaving you open to every subsequently attack, be it strike or grapple. This makes for a slightly tenser game, knowing that you can't simply pound the reverse buttons every few seconds and chip away at your opponents that way. Also, in a clever touch, the amount of reversals given to each wrestler creates an in-game hierarchy between characters. Main-event stars like Triple H or John Cena will get 5 reversal slots, whereas out-of-shape guys like Colonel Mustafa will only get two. This creates a realistic imbalance in gameplay that mirrors the real-life struggle that would occur if a rookie tried to take on an established star. It's still possible, but it's much harder.
