WWE 2K18: 10 Most Wanted New Features
9. Worthwhile Commentary
As anyone who has played a wrestling video game over the past 20 years will tell you, the idea of accurate, compelling commentary has always been a problem. Admittedly, 2K17's narration isn't quite on par with Tazz's woeful 'Triple H has won the match' levels of chopped up recording from Just Bring It, but it's not exactly a major leap forward either.
There's a prevailing sense of insincerity about commentary in WWE video games, and that issue continued in 2K17; too many times, the announcers feel like they're trying too hard, like they're at odds with what the player is doing rather than flowing along with it.
If nothing else, it'd be nice for 2K to add the ability to mute commentary entirely. Reimagining a classic match between legends is pretty difficult when JBL is awkwardly shoe-horning in ill-placed dialogue that doesn't fit the tone of what's happening on screen.
WWE announcers would be out of a job if they were as shoddy in real life as they are in the video games, and sorting this problem should be one of the first things 2K focus on.
