WWE 2K18: What The Reviews Are Saying

2. Universe Mode Is Still Treading Water

Hands up who else would like to see 2K retire Universe Mode in favour of a Story Mode like the one in SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain. Universe has been a tired concept for the longest time now; little more than a slog through match after match, the mode has failed to replace a straight up story when playing as real WWE stars. Even Road To WrestleMania would be better.

2K18 features more cut scenes and the ability to hand wrestlers a push, but it's still lacking and falls way behind other modes like MyCareer and Road To Glory. A tighter, more focused approach from 2K would be better. They just need to cut out all the meaningless fluff, because it makes Universe painfully slow.

If you get a kick out of running WWE from top to bottom (albeit without much of what made GM Mode great), then you'll still enjoy Universe in 2K18. It's hard to shake the feeling that things could and really should be much better by now though.
