Like one of those car boot sale action figures with only a handful of poorly-recorded phrases, the commentary in WWE 2K18 was a mirky mess of recycled phrases and out-of-context one-liners that failed to replicate the smooth banter of Raw or SmackDown broadcasts.

Until 2K take the time to sort this, the announcing in their wrestling games will lag way behind the narration in other sports titles like those for NBA, NHL and even FIFA. It's going to again in 2K19, no doubt.

There's little excuse for how bland and uninspired Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton sounded during the game's most exciting moments. That's on them, but (in fairness) it must be difficult to sound motivated when recording endless lines of samey script. Worse, it's all done in-studio, so there's no live crowd buzz to feed off of.

Hopes were high when 2K announced that Graves and Saxton would be joining the lineup last year. Sadly, those hopes were dashed by another humdrum series of canned responses that had players reaching for the volume controls.
