It took a good chunk of development time and 30 solid years of franchise iteration and lessons learned across a number of consoles, but the latest Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild really is something else.

A serenely beautiful exploration-heavy survival game one minute, then a brutally-hard Dark Souls-rivalling fighter the next, interspersed with all manner of puzzles, side-quests, secrets to find and things to do, it's very easy to get overwhelmed at how much the game doesn't tell you.

"Go save Hyrule" is essentially the first major quest you get and the one you'll carry all the way through to the end, yet how you do so, how much you prepare Link and spruce him up with new abilities, heart canisters, stamina boosts and meals, is up to you.

There's a ridiculous amount to take in across all of Breath of the Wild, yet its heart lies in experimenting with all the excellently programmed physics and environmental manipulation systems.
