Zelda: Link's Awakening - 10 Problems Nobody Wants To Admit
6. The Graphics Are Too Cute
There are very few Legend of Zelda titles that match in terms of graphical style, with Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask being the most obvious pairing to use the same character/world aesthetics, so it should have come as no surprise that Nintendo would totally shake things up for the Link's Awakening remake.
In truth, it wasn't a surprise and the initial response was quite positive but a lot of this appreciation came from fans who were wrong about the Wind Waker's cel shaded design being aimed at kids. Many were confident that the cute 'Ghibli' stylings would be backed up with solid gameplay, akin to the Wind Waker, and that the graphics would grow on them with time.
Sadly, 'many' were wrong. The design of the characters, the island itself and even the items is just too toybox and is a naff way to portray one of the sadder stories in the Zelda timeline. Link himself actually looks more like a Funko Pop than anything and it screams merchandise more than top drawer recreation of a classic.
