10 Horror Franchises Set For A Huge 2024

8. The Addams Family

Netflix

With the live-action side of the IP having remained dormant since 1999 - that being the short-lived New Addams Family show which lasted just one season - the Addams name was brought back to live-action life in magnificent fashion with Netflix's Wednesday back in 2022.

Starring Jenna Ortega as the titular Wednesday Addams, the show's eight episodes impressed, bringing a renewed interest in the Addams Family; so much so, Netflix was quick to renew the series for a second season.

While Ortega stated in a Variety interview how this new season "will lean into the horror aspect of the show a little more", Wednesday was one of the numerous projects impacted by the SAG-AFTRA strike. As such, plans of debuting season two in 2023 were hit, and the current belief is that production on this sophomore offering will commence this April ahead of the season hopefully premiering by the end of the year.

Elsewhere, the Addams Family property is being nicely expanded, with Wednesday spin-off Fester - centering, of course, on Fred Armisen's Uncle Fester - in production at Netflix. He may have only appeared in one episode of Wednesday, but Armisen's Fester made quite the impression, doling out some wisdom to his niece as he looked to evade the law.

Hopefully, Wednesday's second season and Fester's premiere arrive before 2024 is out, but if not, they should give plenty to look forward to in early 2025.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
