4. Aunt Gladys - Weapons
Sometimes, a villain can become more intimidating and disturbing by the lack of a backstory or any real, tangible information given about them. This was certainly the case for Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan) in Weapons, who was easily one of the most disconcerting antagonists of 2025.
The film raised more questions than it answered with regards to the witch, and that helped the mystique surrounding her. Frankly, the character's history and motives, as vague as they were presented, don't necessarily need exploring further, but it would be damn good to watch if they were.
Gladys essentially turned up out of nowhere, took control of Alex's (Cary Christopher) parents, and by extension Alex himself, and ultimately brought an entire class of children under her control to feed off them in a sense, in a futile bid to extend her life.
But where did she come from? What was she doing before? Who has she terrorised in the past and why? Are there others like her out there? How did she get her powers? There's so much more that could come from such a complex and interesting character, and after Amy Madigan's historic Academy Award win, it seems as though a spin-off could be a genuine possibility.
