10 Horror Sequels That Were Just Confirmed

5. Friday the 13th Part 13

It's frankly maddening that the Friday the 13th franchise has laid dormant for more than 15 years, since the release of 2009's remake of the iconic original slasher.

It's no secret that the IP has been stuck in legal limbo until just recently, with franchise rights holder Horror Inc. announcing a "Jason Universe" last year - effectively a reboot of the IP that will encompass an entire media empire of movies, video games, and the upcoming A24 series Crystal Lake.

And in July, Horror. Inc formally confirmed that a new Friday the 13th theatrical movie was finally happening, with the company's Vice President Robbie Barsamian referring to the film as a "new sequel movie."

Considering this will be the thirteenth Friday the 13th movie, the title will surely need to reference this in some way. For fans, though, it'll simply be a relief to see Jason back on the big screen after being absent for so freaking long.

For context, the gap without Jason movies has easily eclipsed the 13-year period during which the original run of nine movies were produced. Wild.
