10 Most Surprising Deaths in Horror Movies
5. Emily Kass - The Invisible Man
The horror of Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man isn't in the onslaught of a famous monster; it's far more nuanced than that. It preys on the fear of an abuser convincing the world that you are crazy. While the titular villain plays plenty of tricks to make this happen, this totally unexpected death is perhaps the most intense one of all.
The movie follows a woman named Celia whose life slowly unravels as her abusive ex-partner uses a high-tech invisibility suit to stalk and harass her.
Convincing anyone about the truth feels like an uphill battle. That is, at least, until she finally starts to get through to someone, her sister Emily, who seems finally ready to take her seriously. Then a knife suddenly appears, floating in the background, before slashing Emily's throat and flying into Celia's hand. It all happens so quickly that it takes a few moments even to register what has happened. But by that point, the damage is done, Emily is dead, and Celia looks like a murderer.
This movie isn't particularly violent, which makes this quick splash of blood all the more shocking.
