10 Recent Horror Movie Cameos Nobody Saw Coming

Osgood Perkins' unhinged new horror-comedy The Monkey kicks things off with a shock cameo in its very first scene, where Severance star Adam Scott shows up for a surprise appearance in the initial 1999-set flashback sequence.

Here Scott plays Petey Shelburn Sr. - the father of protagonist Hal (Theo James), who is shown attempting to offload and eventually destroy the cursed titular antique, with disastrous yet hilariously gory results.

Though the opening sequence was featured prominently in the movie's marketing, the trailers cleverly managed to conceal Scott's presence by only featuring his face out of focus or concealed behind the monkey, making it near-impossible to deduce his identity.

Only if you examined the cast list would you have any idea that Scott was in the film at all.

The actor basically shows up to set the movie's tone - unnerving, but darkly comical - and does a fantastic job of it with the few minutes of screen time he's allotted.
