In late 2023, rumours started doing the rounds that Kiernan Shipka might have a cameo in Osgood Perkins' Longlegs, and given that Shipka previously worked with Perkins on his 2015 film The Blackcoat's Daughter, that made a certain amount of sense. And indeed, Shipka was visible in Longlegs' final trailer for about a second, yet her short hair and the scene's dim lighting made her close to unrecognisable at a glance, and ensured that most failed to notice her.

In the final film, Shipka appears for a few minutes as Carrie Anne Camera, the only known survivor of the titular serial killer (Nicolas Cage), who delivers a haunting monologue that counts among the movie's most memorable scenes.

Between Shipka's dressed-down appearance and her character's unnerving mode of speech, it's the most transformative performance of her career so far, and impressive proof of her range as an actor. Hopefully, it won't be the last time we see her work with Perkins.
