10 Twisted Horror Movies That Go Way Too Far

6. It Chapter Two

By and large, Andy Muschietti's It duology missed the mark somewhat, for fans of horror, for fans of Stephen King's source material, and for those comparing it to the mini-series led by Tim Curry in 1990. There have been plenty of things pointed out since its release that didn't work, some more so than others.

The very beginning of Chapter Two is one such point in that film, and despite it being pulled directly from the pages of King's novel, it unsettled many viewers far more than expected or wanted.

The scene in question depicted an innocent gay couple walking through a carnival, ultimately getting harassed and abused by a group of horrifically close-minded teenagers. One of the men was ultimately killed and devoured by Pennywise (Bill SkarsgÄrd), but even by that point, it was too uncomfortable to be enjoyed even in the context of a movie about such an entity as the titular creature.

Innocent characters aren't exactly immune to being killed in film, particularly in the world of horror, but this was so hateful, ignorant, and unnecessary. Muschietti's big-screen adaptations at least left out an infamously creepy scene from the novel with the kids in the sewers, but still managed to let themselves down with this one.
