10 Wild Horror Movie Weapons That Made You Squirm
3. The Reverse Bear Trap - Saw
Since the original came out in 2004, the Saw franchise has become known for the brutal and ironically cruel games and tests John Kramer (Tobin Bell) has put his victims through. It is the epitome of when ingenuity and insanity cross paths, and has been stretched out for ten movies, with potentially more to come.
The initial film was bad enough, with Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) having to saw his own foot off to escape his shackles, but arguably the most memorable game came as part of a flashback rather than within the main story. This, of course, was the reverse bear trap.
In Saw, Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) was locked into the device, which was attached to both her upper and lower jaw, ready to permanently tear her mouth open. This was the first showing of someone who managed to escape Jigsaw's justice, but with a device such as this, it didn't even need to be shown in action to get a response from audiences.
This was a diabolical and terrifying piece of engineering that wasn't shown to actually kill someone until Saw 3D in 2010, when it ripped Jill Tuck's (Betsy Russell) head open. Even if this hadn't happened, its fleeting appearance in 2004 would have been enough to make it one of the most memorable traps in the history of the franchise.
