15 More Horror Movie Endings That Get Worse The More You Think About It

9. Let The Right One In - Oskar Becomes Eli's Caretaker

Let The Right One In Oskar And Eli

Let the Right One In is a classic of modern horror that centres around the strange, beautiful friendship between Oskar (Kare Hedebrant), a bullied schoolboy and Eli (played by Lina Leandersson, voiced by Elif Ceylan), a child vampire. It's notable for many things: its brilliantly-told story, its haunting visuals, two tremendous child actor performances, a gob-smacking climax... and one of the most misleading 'happy' endings of them all.

At the end, when the bullies nearly drown Oskar, Eli kills them and saves his life. They then run away together, with Oskar set to now act as Eli's caretaker. At first, it seems great that Oskar and Eli can be together, but there's a huge catch. Another man named Hakan (Per Ragnar) had been fulfilling this role before he died earlier on in the story. He was living a miserable existence killing innocent people for their blood so that he could feed Eli - this was obviously a role he'd been doing for decades.

Oskar's probably going to be doing something similar and while he ages normally, Eli will remain the same. Therefore, it's really not the kind of straightforward happy ending you get in Twilight, it's considerably more complicated.
