20 Best Found Footage Horror Movies Ever
6. Willow Creek
Idiosyncratic filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait (World's Greatest Dad) probably isn't the first person you'd expect to take a crack at found footage, and yet his low-fi 2014 movie Willow Creek is certainly one of the genre's most memorable - if divisive - outings.
Goldthwait's picture follows a couple who venture into the woods of Northern California to capture footage for their Bigfoot documentary, only to face off against far more than they bargained for.
Willow Creek is certainly an acquired taste as the subgenre goes with its slow-burn approach to its central terror, though patient audiences will be rewarded with one hell of a gut-wrenching third act. Goldthwait makes smart use of his evidently shoestring budget here, doing most of the implication off-screen while benefitting enormously from the game central work of leads Alexie Gilmore and Bryce Johnson.
Again, it's not for everyone, but Willow Creek does represent a ballsy attempt at a creature feature at the micro-budget level.
