20 Best Found Footage Horror Movies Ever

17. Trollhunter

Paranormal Activity
SF Norge A/S

Trollhunter kicks off as a Norwegian documentary about bear poachers, only to take a sharp left turn when the group of filmmakers cross paths with a massive troll.

While most low-budget found footage features tend to keep the monster concealed for most of the runtime, Trollhunter laudably introduces them early and shows them often, no matter the film's mere $3.5 million price tag.

Even with clever visual tricks being used to sell the monster - like mostly featuring it at night - we get to see a lot of it throughout, director André Øvredal crafting a number of terrifically entertaining rollercoaster ride sequences centered around the creature. Trollhunter's also really funny at times, in large part due to the presence of eccentric troll hunter Hans (Otto Jespersen), and makes a concerted effort to develop its own believable reality where trolls do in fact exist.

An English language remake was in the works once upon a time with Neil Marshall set to direct, though it was ultimately cancelled.
