20 Best Found Footage Horror Movies Ever

18. The Last Exorcism

Paranormal Activity
Lionsgate

Perhaps the single most underrated entry on this list, The Last Exorcism was admittedly marketed as another generic studio horror film attempting to cash in on the found footage trend, but ended up delivering so much more than expected.

Though sold as a typical exorcism movie shot in the found footage style, The Last Exorcism is a far more interesting piece than first impressions might suggest, focused as it is on a faithless reverend, Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian), who attempts to debunk exorcisms, only to finally find himself faced with one that just might be real.

Daniel Stamm takes a laudable amount of time to invest the audience in the plights of both Marcus and Nell (Ashley Bell), the young woman who is purported to be possessed by Satan, while leaving us unsure of quite where things are going to go.

While it's fair to say that the more conventional ending can't help but disappoint after such an expectation-defying first 80 minutes, this is still a cleverly expectation-defying ride for the most part, aided by strong performances from Fabian and especially Bell.
