20 Best Found Footage Horror Movies Ever
13. Hell House LLC
Hell House LLC does a fantastic job of establishing an enticing mystery upfront and then paying it off in satisfyingly terrifying fashion.
Stephen Cognetti's debut feature is framed as a documentary exploring the Hell House catastrophe, an unspecified "malfunction" that caused the deaths of 15 people inside the titular haunted house attraction.
Evidently produced on a shoestring budget - so low, in fact, that it's never been officially reported - Hell House LLC cannily lets the audience fill in the blanks of its dark, empty spaces, weaponising the viewer's own primal fear against them even when nothing can be seen on-screen. It's an exercise in subtle scaremongering that largely eschews jolting jump scares altogether, and somehow manages to make a trope as tired as creepy clowns feel genuinely fresh again.
Hell House LLC was successful enough to spawn four follow-ups of varying quality, the most recent of which divisively ditched found footage altogether.
