20 Horror Movies Everyone Remembers For Just One Scene
5. Society - The Flesh Orgy
It's quite difficult to describe the ending of 1989's Society, an American body horror flick directed by Brian Yuzna. It is completely and utterly bats**t, a nightmarish, ghoulish and grotesque explosion of dizzying creativity and horrifyingly good practical effects.
Well, essentially, it's a flesh orgy. Various wealthy elites turn out to be shapeshifters who can 'shunt', which involves merging into one mass of flesh, and they also gruesomely absorb other people's nutrients and kill them. This is exactly what happens to the unfortunate David, the ex-boyfriend of one of the younger cult members, and it's not a pleasant sight.
Perhaps most memorably of all, there's that moment where protagonist Billy (Billy Warlock) finds his adoptive family, all members of the cult, engaged in the shunting. His father currently resembles a human's lower half with his face where one's bottom should be and, in response to an earlier insult, he says "Well son, I guess you were right. I am a butthead!" Crazy.
Much like with many examples on this list, the flesh orgy is so bonkers that it absolutely overshadows everything else in the movie, not that there was much to overshadow. With its numbingly awful acting and relative lack of thrills, Society doesn't necessarily work that well outside of this ending, and it's only this sequence that has allowed it to become a cult classic.
