20 Horror Movies That Fall Apart In The Final Act

1. Scream 7

Yikes.

Here's a final act so disastrous it didn't just kill the movie, it might've killed the franchise altogether. Scream 7 is by many clear miles the worst movie in a largely terrific horror franchise, which wasn't entirely unforeseen. A shadow has been over this movie for several years, thanks to the unjust firing of lead actress Melissa Barrera, which led to the sequel being hastily reworked.

Sure enough, it was mediocre for much of its run-time, but the final act was immeasurably wretched, as we were subjected to the worst Ghostface reveals ever. There are three Ghostface killers in this instalment, and with all three of them, when they're unmasked, audience members will be thinking "Wait... who's that again?" All three are random characters who appeared in maybe two other scenes at the very most.

Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) turning out to be alive after all would've been a far better ending, and yes, that is meant in all seriousness.

Furthermore, this entire final act was crushingly dull and unacceptably devoid of the meta humour that defined all of the other films in the series, meaning that Scream 7 ended up being exactly the kind of soulless, cliched film that the Scream movies used to parody. An eighth Scream movie seems inevitable given how much money Scream 7 made, but after this, it's difficult to muster any enthusiasm for it.
