3. Riley's Death - Shelby Oaks

Chris Stuckmann's directorial debut, Shelby Oaks revolves around Mia Brennan-Walker (Camille Sullivan), who desperately tries to track down her younger sister Riley (Sarah Durn) that vanished 12 years earlier.

In the third act, Mia finally finds Riley, who was kidnapped by the followers of the incubus Tarion, resulting in her being forcibly impregnated with a baby which she recently gave birth to. Mia frees Riley and the baby, and the authorities are summoned, but once the pair are home, a traumatised Riley attempts to smother her newborn, prompting Mia to intervene.

In the ensuing scuffle, Riley is knocked out of the nearby window, and though she initially survives, moments later, she's attacked and torn apart by a pack of hellhounds. At this point, it's implied that Tarion actually always had designs on both sisters; for Riley to give birth to the child, and Mia to raise it, just as Tarion appears behind Mia and the movie ends.

There's just so much strangeness in this incredibly clunky ending, particularly the bafflingly mean fate afforded to Riley, who, after surviving over a decade of abuse, is freed only to die an excessively cruel death.

To say that Shelby Oaks goes wildly off the rails in its final ten minutes is quite the understatement.
