18. Firing Melissa Barrera - Scream 7
Watching Scream 7, it's so thunderously obvious that the end product was slapped together in a rush by Kevin Williamson following the senseless firing of Scream star Melissa Barrera in late 2023 for making pro-Palestine social media posts.
Given that Barrera and co-star Jenna Ortega - who also left the production following Barrera's dismissal - were effectively installed as the series' new leads as of the Neve Campbell-less Scream VI, their dual departure required a massive pivot for the sequel.
And so, Spyglass dumped a whopping $7 million on Campbell's lawn to convince her to return following the pay dispute which saw her sit out Scream VI, and while Campbell acquits herself just fine here, the film as a whole is an abject mess.
From the formulaic introduction of Sidney's generic daughter Tatum (Isabel May) to the corny AI subplot and franchise-worst killer reveal, it's painfully clear that firing Barrera was the worst thing that could've happened to the movie.
Spyglass might disagree, though, given that despite landing the worst reviews of the series, Scream 7 became its highest-grossing entry to date.
