13. Not Revealing The Twist In Trailers - They Will Kill You

In a commendable but ultimately misguided move, the marketing for They Will Kill You declined to reveal the film's deliciously fun early twist, that the cultists who Asia (Zazie Beetz) faces throughout the film are immortal as a result of making human sacrifices, meaning they're resurrected every time Asia "kills" them.

The trailers make no suggestion of this whatsoever, instead selling it as Ready or Not-esque romp, and because it ended up releasing just a week after Ready or Not 2: Here I come, it's hardly surprising that audiences simply didn't turn up for it.

They Will Kill You failed to even recoup its $20 million budget, but had the marketing played-up its nutty reveal, then audiences might've actually been compelled to go see it.

Much as modern movie trailers are generally far too spoilerific, it definitely would've behooved the studio to make some noise about the movie's real dramatic hook.
