2. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
Few were asking for a remake of 1992's campy classic The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, and aside from game performances from Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Maika Monroe, this new take didn't do a whole lot to justify its own existence.
Just as in the original film, villainous, vengeful nanny Polly (Monroe) is killed by Caitlyn (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), the woman she's spent the entirety of the story terrorising.
The 1992 film climaxed gloriously with Polly's equivalent character being thrown out a window and being brutally impaled on a picket fence below, bringing her reign of terror to an end.
But the remake's big death scene is decidedly less satisfying, with Polly climbing on top of Caitlyn's car as she tries to speed away. The car is then T-boned by another vehicle, causing Polly to be catapulted across the street and dealt fatal injuries.
This reworked death scene just lacks the same sense of kitschy fun as the character's more OTT demise in the original, and the goofy CGI as Polly is launched to her doom makes it difficult to take seriously.
