10 Albums That Will Make You Love Garage Rock Music

4. My Generation - The Who

After all of the shakeups that rock and roll has gone through, it's almost a trend to reject the rock idols that have come before you. Punk was always said to be a reaction to the pompous rock that was dominating the charts, and even grunge tried to wipe the old guard of hair metal off the map from the moment it started. There was never that kind of backlash for the Who though, because they always had that rebellious fire in them.

Even though Pete Townshend was looking to make the Who the standard R&B combo to come out of Britain, My Generation turned into something much different when they actually tested what they could do. Looking to be much more abrasive than any of their contemporaries, the songs on here are of the same ilk that you would have heard coming of Britain at the time, just with a much more defiant attitude. Looking through songs like their version of James Brown's I Don't Mind or even Townshend's A Legal Matter, this was pop music coming out backwards, with the amps blasted and songs that were a bit rougher than the likes of the Rolling Stones.

In the process we also got the title track as well, which has gone down as one of the greatest rock songs of all time and a staple for any group of kids who gets into a garage for the first time to jam. This might not be the best garage rock album of all time, but for anyone mildly curious, this is probably the first place you should go.
