10 Albums You Loved As A Teen (But Should Never Listen To Again)
6. Break The Cycle (Staind)
Released: 2001.
Why You Shouldn't Listen: If you fancy revisiting huge hits like 'Outside' (avoid the MTV Unplugged dirge with Fred Durst, whatever you do) and 'It's Been Awhile', find those individual tracks on Spotify or YouTube. Listening to 'Break The Cycle' from start to finish may require a healthy dose of Prozac.
Aaron Lewis comes across as the most stereotypically upset, reflective and pessimistic person on the planet as he mumbles out lyrics like, "I try to breathe, memories overtaking me. I try to face them, but the thought is too much to conceive" on 'Fade'. This is early-2000s pop-rock for the masses who embraced nu-metal but thought Linkin Park had too much rap influence and Korn were too heavy.
Again, isolated tracks are fine in moderation, and 'Outside', 'Fade', 'It's Been Awhile' and 'For You' all have catchy hooks and/or choruses. It's all laced with an insufferable sense of melancholy for the sake of it though; you'll feel like a 14-year old with the weight of the world on his/her shoulders after listening to all 13 (very much angst-ridden) songs.
